Anti-Static Sprays

Many common domestic and workplace items, decor, gadgets and surfaces - particularly reflective ones, such as computer monitors and TV screens, mirrors and glass - can be quite heavily compromised by the gradual buildup of dust particles, hairs and other unwanted dirt.

As we’ve all experienced, these kinds of irritants have a tendency to cling on even more stubbornly in busy or high-traffic areas where people tend to move around a lot, thanks to the annoying effects of static electricity and friction/charge build-up in the immediate vicinity.

How do anti-static sprays work?

  • Anti-static sprays work by misting goods and surfaces with a very fine mixture of deionised water (minerals and salts removed) and a mild coating additive (frequently a form of alcohol, glycerol esters or plastic polymer)
  • When the spray dries and the water evaporates away, this extremely fine coating is left behind, helping to stop dust and other particles from clinging to the surface by reducing the amount of static charge that can build up in these areas
  • The mechanism for this can either involve the residual coating being slightly more conductive than the original surface, and therefore better at dissipating a charge, or by the coating being very slightly moisture-attracting (which has a similar effect in terms of quickly shedding an electrical charge - which is also how fabric conditioners work in your laundry!)

There are few better products available on today’s market for ridding your prized possessions, textiles, work surfaces and ornaments of dust, static charges and various other atmospheric irritants than a simple bottle of anti-static spray.

These sprays, along with similar wipes and coatings, can be a hugely useful cleaning and maintenance weapon to have in your general arsenal when it comes to protecting all kinds of devices, surfaces, fabrics and household areas. They’re especially effective when used around ‘dust-magnet’ items like screens, mirrors, worktops, textiles, paper and card products, test equipment and electrical circuitry, coated glass, and smooth plastics.
