HDLS Series Limit Switch

From Honeywell, the HDLS series are heavy duty limit switches. They have a robust construction that is able to handle the most heavy duty applications within harsh environments. They can be used in environments where they are subject to vibration, shock and intense temperatures (both high and low). Suitable for use indoors or outdoors, these limit switches can also withstand dust, coolants and water (whether it’s splashing water or hose directed).

The base of the limit switch is either prewired, has a conduit connection or features a connector. It also contains all of the wiring. You can easily mount the switching component and operating head to the base using only two screws.

With an outstanding mechanical life span of up to 50 million actuation cycles, these limit switches offer incredible operational reliability and repeatability.

Features:

• With a modular construction, HDLS limit switches offer numerous actuator styles, circuitry and operating head options. You will find a heavy duty limit to meet your application within this series.

• HDLS limit switches are constructed from corrosion resistant zinc which is epoxy coated and phosphate treated. Optional fluorosilicone and fluorocarbon seals are available (dependent on model).

• HLDS limit switches have twin shaft seals that provide extra protection from harsh environments. A diaphragm seal also offers an additional degree of protection.

• With a unique teller tab as standard, you can easily tell that the limit switch has the proper torque required for you application. When it cannot be moved any further, you can be assured that the lever is tight enough to prevent any slippage.

• HDLS switches can be mounted from either the front or back of the unit. Each model features four mounting holes; two through holes for front mounting and two tapped holes at the back for rear mounting.

• This series of limit switches feature dual bearings, which increases their mechanical lifespan.

• Within the main body of the switch you are able to easily identify which terminals are used as grounding terminals. This makes it easy for you to comply with regulatory standards.

• HDLS limit switches feature double break contacts with the same polarity on each pole.

Benefits:

• The HDLS series utilises an all-metal drive train. This is a unique design feature of this model. Not only does this enhance the life span of the limit switch compared to switches with plastic counterparts, it also means that you will not need to adjust the drive train as frequently. The all-metal drive train can also operate more consistently at higher temperatures than plastic versions.

• HDLS limit switches are constructed with a boss and socket head design. This helps to fasten the head to the body more securely and ensures greater head to body retention, even in harsh conditions. Electrical continuity is maintained by the use of a plug in terminal between the main switch body and the receptacle. As with many other integrated design features of the HDLS series, this helps the switch to function within harsh environments where they may be subject to vibration, shock and extreme temperatures.

• Plug in models are quick and easy to install. They are particularly suited to industrial applications and production lines. They can be dropped in as replacements for other switches and begin working within seconds. The use of self-lifting pressure plate terminals also saves wiring time

• They have sintered bronze bearings and a stainless steel operating shaft. This rugged construction enhances the operational reliability of the unit and helps to maintain an excellent mechanical lifespan.

• HDLS limit switches utilise a one piece flat gasket, rather than some gaskets that are curved and fit around the corners on the unit. This enhances the sealing on the unit. The gasket is not in contact with terminal pins and this lessens the chance of fluid migration within the unit.

• This series of limit switches is interchangeable. You can easily swap plug-in and non-plug in versions or single pole and double pole switches. You can also swap the switches and poles with those from other brands.

HDLS switches have a IP65, IP66 and IP67 rating. This means they are dust-tight and offer protection against water jets, heavy seas and the effects of immersion.

NEMA 1, 3, 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12, 13
Type 1: Enclosures that meet Type 1 are for indoor use, and provide some limited protection for the enclosed equipment.
Type 3: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from foreign objects (such as windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as rain or snow). Enclosures that meet NEMA 3 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 4: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from foreign objects (such as falling dirt and windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as rain, snow or sleet alongside splashing water and hose directed water). Enclosures that meet NEMA 3 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 4X: Allows for indoor our outdoor use and provides some ptoection against windust dust and rain, corroision, splashing water and hose directed water.
Type 6: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from foreign objects (such as falling dirt and windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as rain, snow or sleet alongside splashing water and hose directed water). Enclosures that meet NEMA 4 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 6P: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from solid objects (such as falling dirt and windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as hose directed water). Enclosures that meet the NEMA 6P requirement also offer protection against water when being submerged at a limited depth.
Type 12: Limit switches that meet Type 12 requirements provide limited protection against dust, falling dirt and non-corrosive liquids.
Type 13: Enclosures that meet Type 13 are suited to harsh environments. Enclosures can be used indoors and provide protection against access to hazardous parts. They offer protection against solid objects such as falling dirt, windblown dirt, fibres and lint. They provide a level of protection from dripping and splashing water and other liquids such as spraying splashing and seepage of oil and non-corrosive coolants."
