    Pneumatic Filters

Pneumatic filters keep pneumatic systems working correctly by removing contaminants, like water and oil vapour, from a compressed airstream. Some use a 'media' to trap particles and let only air pass through, while others use a type of membrane that only allows air to pass through. Pneumatic filters are often used alongside pneumatic air lubricators.

Pneumatic filters are considered to be an essential component that can prevent pneumatic equipment from failing. The amount of maintenance needed for these filters depends on how much debris is being filtered. Sometimes there might be a drop in pressure and this usually is an indicator that the pneumatic filter needs to be cleaned. Parts of the filter that should not be maintained are the service indictor and the automatic or manual drain.

RS have a great range of pneumatic equipment including filtration components like these filters to help remove contaminants. We stock pneumatic filters in a wide range of configurations including various filtration sizes, port connections and drain types including automatic and manual to meet many different filtration applications.

What are pneumatic filters used for?

Pneumatic filters are used in a diverse range of environments and industries such as medicine, analytical instrumentation, food processing, marine and aviation, manufacturing and food and beverage packaging. In order for pneumatic machinery to work effectively and efficiency ,compressed air must be clean and free of water and other particles. By using pneumatic filters they remove contamination and increase component life.

    Primary filters

Primary filters protect pneumatic devices from damage that could be caused by contaminants such as dirt particles, small water droplets or aerosols. These primary filters will remove particles as small as five micrometres from the air.

    Secondary filters

Secondary filters can trap particles as small as 50 nanometres. They can remove fumes, odours, moisture, oils and other very small particles from the air stream.

What type of pneumatic filters are available?

    • Pneumatic Water Separators - helps remove water
    • Pneumatic Particulate Filters - traps dirt and particles
    • Pneumatic Coalescing Filter - for removing water, rust, and oil from an air supply
    • Absorbing Filter -removes oil from compressed air streams
