Eaton MTL Surge & Noise Suppressor - MA15 Series

MA15 series of surge protective devices from Eaton MTL Crouse-Hinds protect electronic equipment and computer networks against "noise pollution". The MA15 units clean the effects of industrial noise and surges that may be caused by lightning strikes, switching devices and power factor correction circuits. Suitable for AC or DC application, MA15 surge protector units reduce both electromagnetic emissions and the susceptibility of the associated electrical equipment to emissions from other sources.

Features and Benefits

• 12kA surge protection and RFI filtering
• Protects panel loads up to 15 Amps in series, unlimited Amps in parallel
• Suitable for AC or DC voltage application
• LED status indication feature
• Thermal and short circuit protection
• Exceeds requirements of IEC 61000-4-5

Eaton MTL Surge Suppressor Unit, 240V AC, 280V DC - MA15 Series - MA15/D/2/SI

Install this surge suppressor unit from Eaton's MTL range to protect your electronic equipment and computer networks. It's a safety device that filters out and cleans industrial noise and voltage spikes caused by events such as lightning strikes, switching devices and power factor correction circuits. The casing is made from polyamide, which is hardwearing and resistant to abrasion, so it's a suitable choice in industrial settings. You can use this surge suppressor with applications including media control panels, gaming consoles and servers.

• DIN rail mounting capability for easy installation and maintenance
• Operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C for use in harsh indoor and outdoor conditions
• LED (light-emitting diode) status indication shows that power is on and protection is present

How does a surge suppressor work?

A surge suppressor is activated when a system's voltage exceeds a pre-set threshold. It blocks excess voltage or diverts it to the ground to prevent damage to equipment.

What current can this surge suppressor handle?

This device can handle a maximum surge current of 18kA (kiloampere).

Surge Protection Devices, SPDs (DIN-rail)

Voltage surges, often referred to as spikes or transients are typically caused by switching of fluorescent lights, fuses blowing or nearby lightning activity. The worst voltage spikes are usually caused by lightning strikes and can reach up to 6000V, with current surges of over 3000A. The maximum size of the let-through voltage and current inrush depends on the location within the building's wiring system. BS7671: 2011 Amendment 1 Sections 443 and 534 cover risk assessment and provides guidance on protection of electronic equipment for installation engineers to follow. The fullest information on lightning and surge protection comes from the BSEN 62305 series of standards.
