You should use an O-ring with this plug to increase its protection level. When used with an O-ring, the component's IP rating goes from IP54 to IP68, which means it becomes dust and waterproof.

From Lapp, these blanking plugs are used to close over pre-drilled threaded bore holes. If a cable opening in a panel, junction box or machine housing has become redundant, these blanking plugs can be used to seal the bore hole, and have a simple screw-on action.
