Q: Why are there multiple units of capacitance?

A: Capacitor values can range from tiny which are most commonly found in high frequency circuits to very large, which you will most probably find in applications like power supplies. The different values make them easier to read and a lot more manageable.

Q: How do you measure capacitance?

A: The formula for capacitance requires you to multiply or divide by powers of ten, as shown in the table above. However, our calculator will work it out for you instantly.

Q: Are millifarads used much in industry?

A: A millifarad is equal to 1000 microfarads, so it would sit between farads and microfarads in the table above. They are not commonly used though as microfarads are the preferred unit of measurement.
