Student Content on RS Design Spark

The Mamilla breastfeeding device, designed to help mothers achieve a comfortable latch, was supported by the RS Student Fund. Developed by Design Engineering students at Imperial College London, the project addresses breastfeeding challenges, improving mothers' experiences and easing the workload on lactation consultants. The funds allowed the team to source crucial components, advancing the device's development. Mamilla is a testament to the RS Student Fund's impact on meaningful projects.

Katie who was inspired by her Grandad’s battle with vascular dementia, created Taigh Companion – a smart home system designed to enhance social care. When her Grandad's symptoms suddenly worsened, traditional caregiving wasn't the right fit. So, they turned to technology.

Taigh Companion uses sensors and feedback loops to assist with daily tasks without him needing to ask for help. From preventing falls to making a cup of tea independently, this system has given him back his sense of freedom and safety. What started as a personal project has grown – within a week, we had seven more requests from families seeking similar solutions.
