In-circuit (IC) test clips are a key tool in the electronics industry. They ensure a secure positive connection to all chip leads and enable handsfree testing. IC test clips are used for production testing, quality control inspection and field service.
How do IC test clips work?
IC test clips are designed with steel hinge pins and robust polyester bodies. Most IC test clips are available with upper contacts to attach wiring and lower contacts for your chosen IC. The clips make in-circuit testing safer by allowing easy access to IC leads whilst avoiding any risk of valuable chips shorting out.
Types of IC test clips
IC test clips can be nail-head or "headless" leads to suit different applications. All IC test clips are designed with heavy duty compression springs for positive contact pressure with contact barriers. This helps prevent accidental shorts. They come with different numbers of pins suitable for pin receptacles, wire-wrap or jumper leads. IC test clips are available in various contact platings, including nickel and silver. Gold plating is most widely used due to its reliable and noise-free connection.
