The D-subminiature or D-sub Connector is a common type of electrical connector commonly used within computer and other electronic systems. They are named for the D shaped metal shield that surrounds the connecting elements which may be male (with prongs) or female (with corresponding sockets). D-sub connector accessories add to or change the functionality of the D-sub connector or improve its durability.
What are D-sub connector accessories used for?
D-sub connector accessories can be used to change the gender of the connection, filter the signal or protect the D-sub from damage.
Gender changers convert the connection, allowing two similar D-subs to be connected (for example, male to male or female to female). The screw locks that fix the D-sub in place can also be replaced if missing or damaged.
Types of D-sub connector accessories
D-sub connectors are frequently used for analogue applications, therefore filters are a common accessory. These filters remove unwanted noise from the data transfer through the D-sub connector.
Dust caps provide the connectors with protection, preventing dust or other foreign objects from damaging the connector when not in use.
