Metal Conduit or Plastic Conduit – Which Should I Use?

There are two main considerations when choosing which conduit is right for you. First of these is material. This will be led by where your conduit will be situated. HellermannTyton have several options that offer protection for specific locations.

    • Steel/PVC – There are two options with this material combination. The Helaguard LTS range offers liquid tight protection, perfect for outdoor uses and machine tools. Flexiguard conduit has good resistance to oils, acids, chemicals and UV, useful for plant construction and switch cabinets.
    • Steel/Polyamide 6.6 (PA66) – This option is super strong while maintaining flexibility. It's recommended for high temperature environments and locations where acids and solvents are present.
    • Polyamide 6 (PA6) – This is available in regular and UV stabilised versions. It is suitable for use in control panels, as well as vehicles as it offers good protection against oils, fuels and solvents.

    Flexible Conduit Sizes

The other thing to consider is the width of the cable(s) you'll be running through your conduit. To maximise the protection provided it's important not to constrict cables, however it is also advisable not to give wires more room than they need. HellermannTyton have options with an internal diameter of up to 48mm. Their IWS Polyamide series offers a good selection of diameters to choose from ranging from 4.3 to 29mm internal diameters.

When choosing your HellermannTyton conduit, don't forget to include matching fixtures and fittings. A full range of couplers, clips and joints are available. Using the correct parts for each range is especially important in making sure your wires and cables are as safe as possible.
