This Eaton MTL zener barrier is an isolator designed to meet the needs of the intrinsic safety (IS) interface market. The advanced circuit design and innovative isolating transformer provide explosion protection and safeguard electrical signals in hazardous areas. This optimises safety in working environments. You can use this isolator on single instrument loops or on fully equipped cabinets. Its compact design means you can install it easily in limited spaces like those between devices or control instrumentation.

Can I use this zener barrier with probes and sensors?


Yes. This interface is compatible with 3-wire eddy-current probes and accelerometers, or 2-wire current sensors. You can select the mode with a switch on the side of the module.

What are the benefits of zener barriers?


Zener barriers are smaller than isolation barriers, which makes them easier to install in confined spaces. They don't need external power sources, which makes them cost-effective.

The MTL5500 Series is the latest generation of MTL intrinsic safety isolators designed to meet the needs of the intrinsic safety (IS) interface market for application focussed projects, from single instrument loops to fully equipped cabinets. Incorporating advanced circuit design and innovative isolating transformer construction these isolators offer explosion protection and help protect electrical signals in hazardous areas ensuring a safe working environment.

DIN-rail mounting and plug-in signal and power connectors simplify installation and maintenance. These IS units are powered from a 20 to 35 V dc supply voltage, or, in some cases, from the signal itself.

The compact 16mm wide design reduces weight and gives a cost-effective high packing density and reduction in power consumption. A wide range of module options includes both single and multiple channel isolation barrier devices.
