Eaton MTL Ultra Slim Loop Surge Protector - SD Series
The SD series of surge protector units from Eaton has an ultra-slim design for protecting electrical equipment against surges on control loop cabling. The SD surge protection devices use a hybrid protection circuit, combining sold state electronics and a gas-filled discharge tube (GDT). This combination is designed for exceptionally low line resistance and adds only a small voltage drop to the system whilst providing surge protection up to 20kA.

Eaton MTL Surge Suppressor Unit, 22V AC, 32V DC - SD Series - SD32X
Use this surge suppressor unit from Eaton's MTL range to protect your equipment against voltage spikes caused by events like lightning strikes or fuses blowing. It blocks or diverts power surges to the ground to safeguard equipment on signal and I/O (input/output) cabling. A multi-stage hybrid protection circuit combines solid-state electronics and a GDT (gas-filled discharge tube) to provide low-line resistance and surge protection of up to 20kA. At just 7mm long, this item takes up minimal space. You can use it in your distribution boards and lighting systems.
An auto-reset function establishes a normal power supply once the voltage spike has been resolved
Versatile unit is flexible and suitable for high-bandwidth and low-resistance applications
Very high packing density allows modules to double up as feedback terminals, providing full protection for two to three wire loops

How do I install this surge suppressor?
This surge suppressor can be quickly mounted on a DIN rail. This saves you space and makes it easy to access for maintenance.
Can this surge repressor withstand extreme temperatures?
Yes. This unit can operate at temperatures between -40°C and +80°C, meaning you can use it in harsh conditions.

Eaton formerly known as MTL
Surge Protection Devices, SPDs (DIN-rail)
Voltage surges, often referred to as spikes or transients are typically caused by switching of fluorescent lights, fuses blowing or nearby lightning activity. The worst voltage spikes are usually caused by lightning strikes and can reach up to 6000V, with current surges of over 3000A. The maximum size of the let-through voltage and current inrush depends on the location within the building's wiring system. BS7671: 2011 Amendment 1 Sections 443 and 534 cover risk assessment and provides guidance on protection of electronic equipment for installation engineers to follow. The fullest information on lightning and surge protection comes from the BSEN 62305 series of standards.
