Electrodynamic Exciter Drivers
Visaton Exciters are designed to convert a flat panel into a loudspeaker instead of fitting a conventional loudspeaker. Panels of many different materials and sizes can be used such as plywood, polystyrene ceiling tiles and plexiglass. Exciters provide an invisible sound source which is also proof against external influences (water, dust, sharp objects). Sound quality can be very good and their non directional sound production means that positioning in a room is not so important as with conventional speakers. Exciters are easy to install and do not require holes cutting to accommodate them.
Exciters are a new and innovative type of speaker. They are electromagnetic devices which connect to an ordinary audio amplifier in the conventional way by means of loudspeaker cable. Once fixed in place to the rear of a panel, the audio signal causes the exciter unit to vibrate which in turn makes the panel to which it is fixed vibrate and create sound.
The quality of the reproduced sound is very much dependent on the type of surface the exciter is attached to. The sound will generally be better with larger panels which are light and rigid. Measurements such as frequency response and sound pressure level will depend on the surface material. Ideally the exciter should be fitted slightly off centre on the panel and should be firmly attached by means of gluing and/or screwing.
