This serial board from StarTech.com helps connect legacy devices to old and new desktop computers. It's a single board that fits inside the machine and has two standard brackets with D-sub ports that mount on the case. Two breakout cables convert these into eight standard DB-9 serial ports, ready for connecting multiple peripherals.

Space-saving solutionThanks to the breakout cables, you only need space for two brackets rather than eight to support all the ports.
Versatile performanceConnects all kinds of serial peripheral equipment to your computer, including printers and credit card readers as well as patient monitors and test equipment. This means it's useful in hotels, factories and hospitals for connecting specialist and legacy equipment.
OS compatibilityWorks with Linux and Windows operating systems for compatibility with domestic, commercial and industrial systems.

• Cables, brackets and quick-start guide are included to get you set up quickly
• Configurable with low-profile brackets and hex nuts for flexibility

The Startech 8-Port PCI Express RS232 serial adapter card provides multiple ports to connect a wide variety of serial peripherals, at speeds of up to 921.4Kbps.

Versatile applications

How does serial communication work between devices?Rather than a continuous or simultaneous stream of data, serial communication sees information sent bit by bit. Although slower than more modern methods of data transfer, it's still useful in industrial automation, medical and point-of-sale applications.
