IDEM Emergency Stop Switches

The ESL-SS series of Pushbuttons from IDEM are standard duty emergency stop switches designed to provide robust emergency stop protection for machines or exposed conveyors.
These round Emergency Stop Push buttons with red plastic heads are designed to be used by operators to shut down a machine, system or process.
In combination with any dual channel safety monitoring controllers these switches can be used as an emergency stop devices and monitored for up to Category 4/PLe to ISO13849-1.
The mounting of Emergency Stop Switches on machines and sections of plant conveyors that cannot by protected by the operators are ideal for ESL-SS series to be used.
All IDEM’s ESL-SS series conform to European Standard EN ISO13850 (formerly EN418) and IEC60947-5-5. They have a positive mechanical linkage between the switch contacts and the E Stop Button. The switches are mechanically latched and can then only be returned to the operational condition by pressing the reset button as required by EN ISO13850.
The range of Explosion Push Button Switches can withstand sparking and flames and are IECEx and ATEX certified.
These certificates describe the requirements for equipment intended for use in (potentially) hazardous areas.
ATEX and IECEx both have a quality assurance system. Besides the product certification, in both cases a quality system must be set up by the manufacturer and will periodically be checked by a Notified Body. For both, the quality system is mainly based on ISO 9001 with additional requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of explosion proof products.

Frequently asked questions & answers

What is the different between a push button switch for an emergency stop and a general-purpose push button switch?

A general-purpose push button switch is used for controls, e.g. to start machine operation or simply to switch modes. An emergency stop push button switch however, is mainly used as a safety measure to stop hazardous events.
