LAN testers are devices that allow a user to verify and test a connection or signal within a data cable. The types of tests include whether the cable is set up correctly, connected, the strength or speed of the signal being sent through the cable.

Usually made up of 2 sections or 2 boxes, a network cable tester will have a receiver and a transmitter. A cable is then connected directly or with connectors to both for testing. Once the tester is switched on a signal or data is sent via the cable and a report or the results are shown on the receiver.
