RS PRO tri-rated cables are designed for use within electrical equipment, most commonly for wiring items that include power switchgear. Tri-rated cable is a type of single core insulated electrical cable (with Class 5 flexibility as rated by British Standard BS EN 60228:2005). Tri-rated cable is also known as BS6231, panel wire or switchgear cable. It is made with flexible plain annealed copper that is covered with an HR PVC (heat resistant polyvinyl chloride) insulation.

The term tri-rated refers to meeting the specifications of three separate standards. These standards are BSI, (The British Standards Institute) UL, (Underwriters Laboratories) and CSA (Canadian Standards Associations).
