What Is IP40?

IP rating is known as – Ingress Protection or International Protection Rating.

Ratings are defined to the International Standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529:1992, European IEC 60529:1989).

The standards are used to define the level of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures.

Standard denotes the protection against foreign bodies like dirt and water.

The rating consists of the letters IP followed then by 2 digits/numbers (IP 40).

The first number stands for the level of protection provided against solid bodies.

The second number describes the degree of protection for the equipment within the enclosure from water.

Example IP40 = First number (4) protection from solid objects over 1 mm e.g. wires.

Example IP40 = Second number (0) No fluid protection - Not waterproof

What Is ABS?

ABS is a thermoplastic material made up from a 2 phase polymer blend.

As it is moulded this means the base and the lid have no seams.

ABS has strong resistance to chemicals and physical impacts.

Very easy to machine
