Fluke Digital Thermometer, ±0.05°C Accuracy, +160°C Maximum Temperature Measurement - 1551A-12

This digital thermometer is a portable, battery-powered instrument designed for field and plant use where intrinsically safe operation is required. It combines a fixed RTD probe and integrated readout to deliver repeatable temperature measurements for process calibration and verification in hazardous and industrial environments. The unit displays readings in °C or °F and is suitable for routine checks of temperature-sensitive processes.

Features & Benefits

• ±0.05°C accuracy ensures precise calibration results
• Intrinsically safe certification allows use in explosive atmospheres
• Optional internal logging stores up to 10,000 time-stamped readings
• User-selectable resolution improves detail for fine measurements
• 300h typical battery life from three AAA cells extends field use
• Stability/trend indication confirms when a measurement is steady

**Applications**

• Suitable for calibration of process sensors in chemical plants
• Ideal for temperature verification during custody transfer checks
• Used with industrial ovens and chillers for quality control
• Can be used for on-site validation of food-processing lines
• Used for routine maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems

What sensor type does it use and how does that affect drift?

It employs a thin-film 100Ω RTD sensor, which reduces susceptibility to drift compared with conventional wire-wound probes and improves long-term repeatability.

How does the instrument handle data transfer and configuration?

Calibration parameters are accessible via an RS-232 stereo jack and logged measurements can be retrieved from internal memory when fitted with the data-logging option.

What environmental conditions limit its readout performance?

The display electronics are specified to operate between -10°C to 50°C and the unit may be stored between -20°C to 60°C with 0%–95% non-condensing RH.

What immersion depth and response times should I expect for reliable readings?

The thin-film sensor requires a minimum immersion depth of 7cm

response time depends on probe diameter, with smaller probes reaching thermal equilibrium faster.

Note

Model number appended with a -9, -12, -20 indicates probe sheath length in inches. All probe diameters are 6.35 mm with the exception of the 1551A-9, which is 4.8 mm diameter

Supplied with

3 x AAA batteries and instruction manual on CD ROM
