This contactor overload relay from Eaton protects motors that run with a full load current rating of 1.6 to 2.4A. A thermal overload relay uses the heat generated by an overcurrent to switch off the current. The relay includes a strip made of two metals that expand at different rates when heated. This causes the strip to bend when it reaches a certain temperature, breaking the circuit to switch off the current.

If overload protection is set too low, the motor will be disconnected even when it's working normally. It's important to set the protection according to the voltage rating of your motor.
