[Music] 0:09 hello everyone and welcome to the RS 0:11 Tech talk I am your host Miguel Gino 0:13 from RS Americas and in today's episode 0:15 we have our special guests from Molex 0:17 where they're going to be talking about 0:18 their Brad Power Solutions which is a 0:20 modular power distribution system and 0:23 their ultralock which is their push to 0:24 lock M12 Solutions so before we get 0:27 started um Thomas Sean why don't you go 0:30 ahead and introduce yourself to our 0:31 viewers and tell us what you do at moix 0:34 hey everyone yeah my name is Thomas 0:35 Erics and I'm a product manager in our 0:38 industrial Solutions business unit at 0:40 Molex and I focus on Brad power and 0:42 other power Distribution Systems hi 0:44 everyone I'm Sean M I'm a new product 0:46 development uh product manager we're at 0:49 the industrial Solutions business unit 0:50 at MOX all right awesome well thank you 0:52 for being here Sean and Thomas really 0:54 excited to talk about Brad power and 0:56 ultralock so uh to kick off I know MOX 1:00 is very well known for their connector 1:03 portfolio right uh so uh what is the 1:06 moix Brad power and why was it developed 1:10 yeah so Brad power is a power 1:12 distribution system like you mentioned 1:14 um and it consists of three different 1:16 sizes um that allow for this system to 1:18 be very modular and connected it was 1:21 originally actually developed for the US 1:24 Postal Service um yeah so they used to 1:27 be in their sorting facilities that 1:29 everything had to be hardwired whether 1:30 it was motor power any kind of power 1:32 that was being distributed had to be 1:33 hardwired so if anything went wrong 1:35 anything went down you had to bring in 1:37 an electrician who um would have to come 1:40 in and fix it so it sometimes that would 1:42 take days if not weeks to get fixed and 1:45 you have a lot of time downtime for 1:46 those sorting facilities then um so we 1:48 actually worked with the National 1:50 Electric Code um so the US government to 1:53 change the that that code to allow for a 1:56 connector ey system and then Brad power 1:58 was born okay awesome well 2:00 really nice fun fact that it was 2:02 initially developed for the USBs uh 2:05 would have not guessed that yeah so um 2:08 now that we know what it is um what are 2:10 some other applications for Brad power 2:13 and what can it be used for yeah so Brad 2:15 power can be used really anything that 2:16 has any kind of either motor power or 2:19 higher power that needs to be 2:20 distributed throughout a system so that 2:22 could be anything such as like conveyor 2:24 belts Material Handling um anything like 2:27 that like packaging um machine other 2:30 machine lines a lot of different 2:31 automation um manufacturing and just 2:34 moving things around so it can be used 2:36 in lots of different ways we even have 2:37 like HVAC um and other lighting portable 2:40 Lighting systems that um Brad power is 2:42 used for just because some of the those 2:44 require the higher current so pretty 2:46 much key point for me is that it's very 2:48 versatile the Brad power solution so 2:49 really good to hear that uh MX was able 2:52 to cover a different type of uh areas in 2:54 in for for the Brad Power Solutions so 2:57 uh now what would you say are the main 2:59 compon components for the Brad power yep 3:02 so Brad power is actually made of three 3:04 different sizes we have our M35 m29 and 3:07 M22 so um the M35 is our standard power 3:11 drop um it's your it goes up to 32 amps 3:14 um the m29 goes to 25 amps and then the 3:18 M22 goes all the way up to 15 amps um so 3:21 a lot of times you have your main 3:23 receptacle um receptacles are going to 3:25 be plugged into the main power source or 3:27 onto the actual device itself um and 3:29 connected to that is going to be uh some 3:31 kind of cord set or patch cord um that's 3:33 going to be transferring all the power 3:35 through the system um and a lot of times 3:37 it's going to be connected to a t so 3:38 you'll have your M35 32 amps going in 3:41 one side and continuing out the other 3:43 side and then either an M35 or an M22 3:45 dropping down um to distribute that 15 3:48 amps of power for that specific motor or 3:50 any any kind of power application um so 3:53 it's all made of of those core parts and 3:56 then we do have a few accessories here 3:57 and there that allow for um safety 4:00 applications and things like that um 4:02 making sure that things are mated 4:04 correctly and um protected from 4:07 accidental yeah yeah so things like that 4:10 okay well hopefully our viewers got a 4:12 little bit um of of a good idea of the 4:14 options that Pratt power is able to 4:16 offer for their different type of 4:18 applications uh sounds very versatile 4:20 for different type of situations now now 4:23 uh something I know is that customers 4:26 might want to need to know about the 4:28 safety and environmental regulations so 4:31 can you talk about how Brad power is 4:33 able to cover these regulation and why 4:35 it's suitable for so many different 4:37 situations yeah so like we I mentioned 4:40 earlier um we are actually written into 4:42 the National Electric Code so we follow 4:44 that but we also follow lots of other um 4:47 internationally recognized standards 4:49 such as UL 2237 um IEC standards as well 4:53 as um CSA and and a few others that 4:58 allow Brad power to use glob 5:00 awesome well really great to know that 5:02 Brad power is able to cover these 5:04 regulation and harsh environments for 5:06 what our customers might need uh now uh 5:09 Sean let's go ahead and move on to the 5:11 moix push pull M12 solution which is the 5:14 ultralock which I know you focus on um 5:17 what is it and why was it developed sure 5:19 so so our Focus here at Molex um is 5:21 really to help solve our customers 5:23 Problem by inventing innovative 5:24 solutions the ultralock um or as is 5:27 better known in the market the the push 5:28 to pull push pole sorry um it was 5:32 actually developed in 2005 um for the 5:35 industrial harsh environments um and 5:37 also in hard to reach places um the 5:39 original intent of the product really 5:41 was to create a quick disconnect M12 5:44 product line um for sensors actuators um 5:47 and other control devices awesome um 5:50 which would help reduce drastically 5:51 reduce time Dem mate and also provide a 5:54 watertight radio seal MH okay well 5:57 really nice to know that mik is striving 5:59 to to uh create this value for its 6:01 customers so um is is mik push pole M12 6:06 Solutions unique to the market or is it 6:08 compatible to a specific standard out 6:10 there sure actually uh mox's Push Pull 6:13 ultralock was actually invented by by 6:15 Mox and it has since been adopted by 6:18 many other connector manufacturers okay 6:20 um it's now um an IEC standard um and 6:25 which guarantees intermed ability 6:26 between all the different conector 6:27 manufacturers that have Push Pull okay 6:29 awesome well really good to hear that 6:31 it's very versatile and it could 6:32 actually mix in with other parties 6:34 connectors especially when you're in a 6:36 tight spot and customers need something 6:37 real quick they need an alternative so 6:39 really good to know that they're 6:40 compatible with others um so where would 6:43 you say that the ultral log Push Pull 6:45 solution is being used uh today sure so 6:48 I mean the we have um the ultr loock 6:50 push pull solution is currently 6:51 implemented in all of our uh not all of 6:53 our most of our M12 products um we're 6:55 looking actually to in the near future 6:57 to implement it in all of our M12 um 6:59 product line um it's in applications 7:02 ranging from the harsh environments of 7:04 commercial vehicle all the way up to 7:06 telecommunications um I mean we're 7:08 actually actively working to implement 7:10 it on some of our higher um M22 and M35 7:14 uh Power solution units okay awesome so 7:18 I mean currently um some of the main 7:20 markets we see right now are um food and 7:23 beverage um just because of the ip69k 7:26 rating um and with the harsh 7:29 requirements that they have for um hose 7:31 down and we also see it in the um 7:35 automotive and material handling because 7:36 there's a lot of connection points for 7:37 the M12 there um and really that's 7:41 because um because of the r reduced 7:44 installation time okay um and so 7:47 actually the ultr loock is about eight 7:49 times on average eight times faster than 7:51 the standard M12 threaded product is um 7:54 which adds up you know in time as 7:57 there's a lot of uh M12 connection 7:59 points in in those applications so um 8:02 you know I really actually like to 8:03 demonstrate the the difference between 8:05 the ultralock okay and the standard M12 8:08 all right yeah well let's get to it so 8:10 here's the M12 standard 8:13 threaded see 8:58 so as you can see on the left side the 9:00 standard M12 threaded takes a lot longer 9:03 than the ultr lock you see on the right 9:04 side um I wasn't lying when I said it 9:07 about eight times faster well thank you 9:09 for that Sean really great examples that 9:11 you gave out on the ultral lock I know 9:13 our customers really appreciate uh 9:15 knowing when to use these and also a 9:17 demonstration on that particular uh part 9:20 there or system now uh that is pretty 9:23 much all the questions I had for both of 9:25 y'all um but before we sign out where 9:28 would you recommend our viewers to learn 9:30 a little bit more about Molex products 9:32 so I I recommend going to just ww. 9:34 molex.com um they can see all of our 9:37 product offerings and um additional 9:39 documentation on everything we discuss 9:41 today and more okay awesome uh thank you 9:43 for that well any final thoughts I just 9:45 want to thank you and rs for hosting us 9:48 um and I hope the customers out there 9:49 you guys were able to learn something 9:50 today um we appreciate you taking the 9:52 time to watch this video yeah thank you 9:53 very much all right well thank you for 9:55 that Sean and Thomas really appreciate 9:57 both of your times here uh to learn more 9:59 more about the Brad Power Solutions and 10:01 the ultral luck for our viewers uh and 10:04 to our viewers thank you for watching 10:06 remember to check out RS and moix for 10:08 your future connectivity applications 10:10 and we'll catch you next time on the RS 10:12 Tech talk 10:13
