    LED PIR Floodlights

Passive Infrared sensors (PIRs) are electronic devices that detect the infrared light radiating from objects within their line of sight. They are often used in motion sensor applications, such as automatic lighting systems and burglar alarms.

At RS, we have a range of PIR activated floodlights from trusted brands, including Knightsbridge, PowerLED, Timeguards, and our own RS PRO range.

How do PIR motion sensors work?

In motion sensors, such as those used for automatic lighting systems, a pyroelectric sensor is the main component that detects the heat energy emitted by humans and animals in the form of infrared radiation. In a PIR motion sensor, a pair of these pyroelectric sensors are placed beside each other to detect the heat energy from the surrounding environment. These infrared signals are focused on the pyroelectric sensors through a Fresnel lens. As the sensors are heated or cooled, an electrical signal is generated, which in turn turns the attached floodlight or alarm on.
