The best way to measure for an accurate fit for the wearer is to take a flexible tape measure and wrap it around the widest part of the palm, excluding the thumb, and the corresponding inch number will be the size of glove you need, therefore if your palm measures at a 9-inch circumference then you require a size 9 glove.
