The Makey Makey STEM kit is an engaging, hands-on way to introduce children and students aged 8 and over to STEM principles. Whether it's in the classroom or through home-based or distanced learning, Makey Makey's Classic kit introduces students to the basic principles of programming through fun lesson plans. Using objects such as fruit, Play-doh, and other conductive materials from around the home or classroom, children can learn simple circuits through fun projects like creating a banana piano to their own game controllers. Students don't need any prior programming knowledge to use Makey Makey, and no additional software is required as Makey Makey is compatible directly with Windows and Mac operating systems.

The Makey Makey STEM pack utilises alligator clips and connector wires to complete a circuit, introducing the concepts of conductors, insulators and resistors by encouraging children to use different materials and objects in their circuits such as bananas, Play-doh or even someone else's hand. Their creativity is their guide from thereon in, whether they choose to draw a playable instrument or create their own unique game controller, or even create a touchpad that helps them capture a picture of their pets.

Makey Makey uses Scratch, a block-based visual programming language and website, to introduce young minds to programming and coding. The drag-and-drop style interface makes coding simple, allowing children to visualise their program in simple steps and explore functionality through creative ideas. Students can also learn to use MakeCoade Arcade, another block-based programming language that also incorporates JavaScript code to create games. Once students have learned to code games in MakeCode Arcade, they can use their Makey Makey kit to create their own controller and play away.

The Makey Makey Classic Kit includes:

  • 1 x Makey Makey Board

  • 1 x USB Cable

  • 7 x Alligator Clips

  • 6 x Connector Wires

  • 1 x How-to Booklet with Visual Project Guide
