RS PRO Cotter Pin Kit

Introducing the range of RS PRO Cotter Pin Kits, a high-quality fastener solution for locking pins, nuts and bolts into place. Each fastener is made from steel with a zinc coating, making them much more cost-effective than their stainless-steel counterparts, while still offering a high level of protection against surface rust and oxidisation.

Features and Benefits:

  • This range of RS PRO fasteners is ideal for applications where mechanical vibration or movement may potentially loosen a bolt over time, so this split pin is used to secure the bolt

  • Manufactured with a zinc finish, each fastener provides good protection against surface rust and oxidisation and offers good lubricity to the threads of the fastener

  • In addition to this, the zinc-plated steel fasteners are much more cost effective than stainless steel and is also widely recyclable, making them a much more sustainable option

  • Available in a wide range of sizes

Applications:

Cotter pins, also known as split pins, are used as a locking fastener used alongside bolts, pins and nuts to securely hold them in place when mechanical vibration over time can loosen them. The are designed to be inserted through the hole of a bolt or nut and then bent into different shapes that lock it in place and prevent the fastener from loosening. Split pins are most commonly used in:
  • Automotive industry

  • Marine and aerospace

  • Industrial automation and manufacturing

  • Engineering

Are cotter pins re-useable?

As a rule, it is important not to re-use the split pin because the bending of the pin that locks it into place weakens the structure of it when it is re-bent and straightened to be re-used, which could lead to the pin failing.
