Allen Bradley Guardmaster 440G-MT47038 Solenoid Interlock Switch

Improve machine guard security and safety with the 440G-MT47038 Solenoid Interlock Switch by Allen Bradley Guardmaster. This unit is a positive mode, tongue operated safety interlock switch which is designed for use in heavy-duty applications. The 440G-MT family are perfectly suited for use with machinery which does not have an instant stop when power is removed, or which can be damaged by premature inference.

The 440G-MT47038 Guard-locking switch has a Power-to-Release function with 24V AC/DC solenoid voltage. The safety contacts are 3 Normally Closed, and the auxiliary contact is 1 Normally Open. It has a fully-flexible actuator made of tough stainless-steel. It also has die-cast painted zinc alloy housing material to ensure optimal durability. The conduit entry is M20, and this safety switch has Break Before Make action. It has an excellent ingress protection rating of IP67, ensuring that it is dust-tight and can withstand some immersion in water. This means that it can be used in environments with regular washdowns. It has a minimum operating radius of 60mm.

The 440G-MT works by securely locking a machine safety barrier closed while the machine is in operation. When a signal is applied to the internal solenoid the locking mechanism is released, allowing the guard to open. While the barrier is open the power supply is cut off, preventing physical access to a dangerous area. This ensures better protection for personnel by reducing risk of injury.

Features and Benefits:

• Actuator type is fully-flexible

• Embedded LED provides clear visual indication of the status of the switch: ’door open’, ’door shut and unlocked’, and ’door shut and locked’

• Heavy-duty die-cast zinc alloy housing, allowing for use in harsh environments

• High IP67 rating – can be used in washdown environments

• Reliable high locking force of 1500N (337 lbs)

Note: This device can be used with GuardLink, a new safety linking technology from Allen Bradley Guardmaster. GuardLink simplifies and reduces the connection time of the safety system while providing real-time diagnostic information over Ethernet IP. This makes it simple to identify the location of the device that has tripped the system, thus reducing downtime and improving the machines overall efficiency. For more details, please refer to the GuardLink brochure.

How do Solenoid Interlock Switches work?

Solenoid interlock switches work by having their internal solenoid energised (Power to Release) or de-energised (Power to Lock) by an external signal. The solenoid is a wire coil which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. These types of safety switches are often used in industrial environments on machine guards to monitor the barrier status and limit unsafe access to hazardous equipment. They ensure that safety barriers remain securely locked while dangerous processes are running. They are useful with machinery that does not instantly stop, such as high inertia rotating machines.

Rockwell Automation is a global leader in industrial automation and digital transformation, and brings smart manufacturing to life. With a long legacy of creating Allen-Bradley® integrated control and information solutions, we help make you as productive as possible. Our portfolio of sensing, safety and motor control products can support your move towards smart machine applications. Allen-Bradley® IO-Link sensors are data-enabled and communicate with all field buses, providing diagnostic and health information about the device before a machine stops, and enabling quick production changeovers through fast parameter downloads from PLCs into the device. This reduces machine downtime and increases manufacturing OEE. For safety components, products with built-in diagnostics simplify the set-up of the smart device, and reduce maintenance, leading to a more efficient, machine data-driven approach.
