What is an Uninterruptible Power Supply used for?

    What's the difference between an offline and an online UPS?;An offline UPS supplies the AC mains power directly to the load under normal conditions and switches to the battery backup in the event of an outage. This means a brief disruption of about 5ms (milliseconds) to the power supply. An online UPS supplies the AC electricity through a rectifier and inverter at all times, so there's no interruption in power.
