How many pre-cut shims can I stack on top of each other?
The rule of thumb should be to stack as few shims as possible, with a wedge of three being the maximum. If you need more, it's better to get a thicker shim. Too many shims cause soft foot – when the solid surface contact of machinery feet is influenced.
