Photoelectric sensors like this product from the RS PRO range are used to track the presence or absence of an object. It can detect physical objects, calculate distances and measure changes in surface conditions. Emitting a beam of electromagnetic radiation (light), it calculates changes in the return signal (reflection). When the beam of light hits an object, the receiver captures the reflection and converts it into an electrical output in less than 2.5 milliseconds.

This sensor is both durable and compact. With a robust IP67 body, it's water-resistant and dustproof. Both the source of light and the receptor are within the unit, making transport and installation simple.
