SICK SRM50 Series Rotary Encoder, HIPERFACE Interface, IP40 - SRM50-HFA0-K21 / 1037071

This rotary encoder is a HIPERFACE® motor feedback device designed to deliver high-resolution absolute position feedback for servo motors in industrial automation. It provides precise angular information via a binary absolute code and a process data channel, and is built for continuous operation across a wide temperature span in electrically conductive enclosures that comply with EMC mounting requirements.

Features & Benefits

• 134,217,728 steps total for fine positional resolution
• 4,096 absolute revolutions to track multi-turn positions
• less than or equal to 6,000min⁻¹ absolute position update for robust control
• 0.3 inch measuring step when interpolated for accurate motion control
• Operating torque 0.2Ncm enabling low-friction drives
• IP40 enclosure rating when mating connector fitted for protected installations

**Applications**

• Suitable for closed-loop control of servo motors in production lines
• Ideal for precision indexing on rotary tables and gearboxes
• Used with motor controllers requiring HIPERFACE parameter access
• Can be used for position feedback in robotics joints and actuators

What electrical supply does it require?

It accepts a DC supply in the 7V–12V range with a recommended 8V and typical current consumption of 80mA without external load.

How does the Interface communicate configuration and process data?

The device provides a HIPERFACE® communication link for parameter exchange alongside RS485-based parameter channels using a dedicated Data+ and Data− pair.

What are the signal outputs for angular information?

It produces sine and cosine analogue signals Plus reference sine/cosine channels, with an output frequency capability up to 200kHz for the sinusoidal signals.

How tolerant is the mechanical coupling to misalignment?

Static radial allowance is ±0.3mm and axial ±0.75mm while dynamic allowances are ±0.1mm radial and ±0.2mm axial to accommodate drive movement.

What environmental stresses can it withstand?

It operates between −30°C to +115°C, resists 100g shocks and vibration up to 20g across 10Hz–2000Hz when mounted per EMC guidance.
