The PC connection is established via a native USB 2.0 Hi-Speed port (480 Mbit/s), on the CAN bus side the device is connected via RJ45 connectors with galvanic isolation. The galvanic isolation provides reliable protection of the PC against overvoltage and voltage peaks.

Thanks to its high-performance on-board microcontroller system, the Ixxat USB-to-CAN V2 automotive is also able to process message bursts (11- and 29-bit identifiers, CAN 2.0 A/B) at bit rates of up to 1 Mbit/s without any loss. This also includes message filtering, accurate time stamping (1 ms resolution) and buffering of CAN frames. The integrated LIN interface can be operated in either master or slave mode, making the device adaptable to various requirements.
