What's the difference between an axial fan and a centrifugal fan?

The blades of an axial fan rotate around an axis and force air out parallel to the shaft. You'll find axial fans in high-flow applications with low pressure requirements. Centrifugal fans, also called blowers, move air radially, using centrifugal force to extract air at right angles to the fan intake and spin it outwards. They can generate a steady flow of air that's well-suited to high-pressure applications.
