OSRAM SFH 7050 BIOFY Sensor
The BIOFY Sensor (SFH 7050), from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, is their first integrated optoelectronic sensor. The BIOFY sensor is specifically designed for reflective pulse oximetry and automatic fitness tracking. It comes in a compact package measuring just 4.7 x 2.5 x 0.9 mm.
This multichip device features three light emitting diodes (LEDs) of different wavelengths; green (535 nm), red (660 nm) and IR (940 nm). These wavelengths are based on high efficiency chip technology. The BIOFY Sensor SFH 7050 also contains a photodiode with a large surface area for maximising signal level. The measurements begin automatically when the sensor comes into contact with the skin. They also stop automatically once the sensor is removed from the skin. The BIOFY Sensor SFH 7050 also features a light barrier to block any internal optical crosstalk, therefore improving the signal-to-noise ratio.
Suitable applications for the BIOFY Sensor SFH 7050 include heart rate monitoring, pulse oximetry and proximity sensors. The sensor is able to measure heart rate only by powering only one LED and pulse oximetry by using the red and infrared LEDs or both.
