    How do they work?

Voltage testers utilise what is called capacitive coupling, the user holding the instrument provides a ground reference. The tester then detects changing electric field around the object or objects conducting an AC current (Alternating current). Simply put, the user and the tester pen when near the electrical conductor will cause a small current to flow through the tester from the source, this is how it detects AC voltage.

    How do you use a Fluke Non-Contact Voltage Tester?

    Using the Fluke Non-Contact Voltage Tester is easy and convenient. To begin, press the power button on your tester to turn it on. Next, select one of the voltage sensing ranges by pressing either V or AC buttons.

    Then bring the tip of your tester near an electrical outlet or wiring and maintain a distance between its tip and any active conductor that's no more than 6 inches away. If there is live voltage present, the green LED will light up in your tester indicating an electrically safe working environment.

    If you see any other colours such as red or yellow then discontinue usage immediately as these colours indicate high levels of hazardous currents.
