    Keysight Technologies Bench Power Supplies

    Power through circuit testing with a bench power supply. These powerhouses convert mains alternating current into direct current to provide an uninterruptable power supply with which you can complete your testing tasks. They're commonly used by electrical engineers in design and development laboratories and repair workshops, as the current can be manually specified to test for proper function in electrical circuits and devices.     What different types of bench power supply are there?

    Bench power supplies can be grouped into one of two types based on how they convert current.

    • Linear bench power supplies convert mains alternating current into direct current using a linear regulator. This is an older technology and as such, it isn't very efficient, with some energy lost as heat. They are, however, generally cheaper and are very reliable.

    • Switch-mode bench power supplies convert current using a switching regulator. This newer technology works similarly to the linear regulator, but instead switches the mains alternating current into a higher frequency alternating current. These bench power supplies are more efficient, however they're also generally more expensive than linear bench power supplies.

    Which bench power supply is best for me?

    The best bench power supply for you depends on the kind of testing you'll use it for. When choosing a power supply unit, it's important to consider the following options:

    • Analogue or digital: Analogue models display current readings using a dial and scale, whereas digital models use a screen to display the value. Choose a digital bench power supply for greater precision.

    • Calibration: Calibration is available for many of our bench power supplies, which is an important consideration for more demanding testing that requires greater precision.

    • Input and output connectors: Select a model compatible with the accessories and tools you have at your disposal.

    • Output current and voltage range: Choose a wider current and voltage range for compatibility with a wider variety of projects.
