Key Switches

Key switches are electromechanical switches that can only be operated with the use of a key, which is turned to different positions to break or complete the circuit. The different positions align with states such as ON or OFF, giving a clear indicator of the circuit status. Key switches are typically used for operations and processes that require a higher level of safety or security clearance, as they cannot be accidentally switched on or off without the appropriate key.

What are key switches used for?

Key switches are commonly found in industrial environments, such as factories and warehouses, but can be used anywhere that a secure, key-operated switch is appropriate. Typical applications include:

  • Fire alarm systems
  • Data cabinets or servers
  • Fuse boxes
  • Processing or assembly lines
  • Large or heavy-duty machinery

Types of Key Switches

  • **Panel Key Switch: **Mounted on control panels to restrict access to system functions or machinery operation.
  • **External Key Switch: ** Installed outside enclosures or buildings to control access or trigger external systems.
  • Latching Key Switch: Maintains its ON or OFF state after the key is turned and removed, used for sustained activation.
  • **Capacitive Key Switch: **Touch-sensitive and uses key verification for contactless control, ideal for clean or sealed environments.
  • **Barrel Key Switch: **Uses a barrel-style key for added security, commonly found in vending machines or secure panels.
