Cable trunking is a cable management system that is used for the protection and distribution of cables and wires. Trunking is also used to organise loose cables, preventing tripping, snagging and hiding unsightly cables from view. Installed onto a wall, surface or on the floor, cable trunking can be found in a wide range of industrial, commercial, and domestic applications. For more in-depth information, please see our cable trunking guide.

RS offer a great selection of high-quality cable trunking from well-known brands including Igus, Hellermann Tyton, Betaduct, Schneider Electric and of course RS PRO.

What are the different types of electrical trunking?

    Metal Trunking

Metal trunking can be used both indoors and outdoors. Due to its robust construction, it can withstand harsher environments and conditions. Metal trunking is made from a range of different metals such as aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel. Metal trunking is available as standard hollow trunking for the protection of cables and wires or as bench and dado trunking for the distribution of wiring in offices, buildings, and structures.

    Plastic Trunking

Plastic trunking is one of the most popular types of trunking used in industry today. Although not as robust as its metal counterpart it can still withstand a range of tough applications and environments. Plastic trunking is available in various forms such as open-slot trunking, closed-slot trunking, self-adhesive trunking, dado trunking and flexible cable chain trunking. Plastic trunking is made from a range of different plastics including ABS, PVC, UPVC or Polymers.
