Cable covers are used to protect, hide and tidy away cables and wires. Covering cables, particularly those lying on the floor, is highly important for safety reasons. To adhere to most health and safety regulations, cable protection is a priority. Not only would a great quality cable cover protect the cable from damage, it also protects personnel from accidental tripping.
Cable covers are primarily made from plastic or rubber and are available in a range of colours, such as black or grey. They may also feature coloured strips, for example in yellow, to identify the cable or to help clearly show a hazard. Standard covers come in a strip which can be cut to the desired length. Pedestrian cable covers may also offer anti-slip protection for use in areas with foot traffic.
There's no definitive type of cable protector that would suit every need. As an example, a heavy duty version of a cable protector wouldn't be as efficient within an office environment. And vice versa, a small cable cover wouldn't perform as well outside. As an example here's the differences between these two particular types.
