μA78 Series Linear Voltage Regulators, Texas Instruments
The Texas Instruments μA78 families are linear voltage regulators that cover a range of fixed output voltages from 2.6 V to 15 V.The three terminal positive voltage regulators offer thermal overload shutdown and internal current limiting. There is no need for external components although it is possible to adjust the voltage and current with external devices. The TI positive linear regulator IC produces an output current of 1.5A for the μA78 series, 0.1A for the μA78L version and the μA78M offers 0.5A current output. It is used in a wide variety of applications including on-card regulation which eliminates problems that occur with single point regulation also suitable in telecommunications, computing and portable device applications.

The Texas Instruments UA78 series of fixed-voltage integrated-circuit voltage regulators is designed for a wide range of applications. These applications include on-card regulation for elimination of noise and distribution problems associated with single-point regulation. Each of these regulators can deliver up to 1.5 A of output current. The internal current-limiting and thermal-shutdown features of these regulators essentially make them immune to overload. In addition to use as fixed-voltage regulators, these devices can be used with external components to obtain adjustable output voltages and currents, and also can be used as the power-pass element in precision regulators.
