RS PRO Stainless Steel Split Cotter Pin Kit
RS PRO metric cotter pin kit contains 1025-piece of pins, made of A2 grade stainless steel with plain finish. Each cotter pin conforms to DIN94 standards. These pins are a type of mechanical fastener that can hold assemblies together and are easy to install and remove and offer a reliable fastening solution for light-duty applications.
Cotter pins (also known as a split pins or cotter key) are metal fasteners that are bent during installation to lock it in place. Typically made of thick wire with a half-circular cross section, split pins come in multiple sizes and types. Cotter pins are a flat metal that is open on one end and folded to a small eyelet at the opposite end. The open end of the pin is bent apart, locking it in place when inserted into hole. When removed they are designed to be discarded and replaced, because of fatigue from bending.

Typical Application:
Cotter pins or split pins are a light-duty type of basic metal fastener, often found holding shafts and similar components in place, or keeping machinery aligned. They feature an eyelet to enable various attachments, and generally require the use of pliers or other manipulating tools to bend out the two separate tines of the pin once it has been inserted through a suitably sized hole. These pins can be used for the following:
Keep machine parts in proper alignment
Attaching lightly loaded pulleys and gears to shafts
Used to fasten metal together, for example: staple or rivet
