Allen Bradley Guardmaster 440N-Z21W1PH MC2 Non-Contact Safety Switch

The 440N-Z21W1PH Magnetically Coded Non-Contact Safety Switch by Allen Bradley Guardmaster provides improved protection for personnel and ensures safe-access to hazardous machinery. It combines several magnetically sensitive elements which must be activated in a specific order to work correctly and allow the safety barrier to open. This versatile switch is expertly designed to meet the risks of more complex safety guard monitoring applications. It provides ease-of-installation with its compact size and moulded-in brackets.

The 440N-Z21W1PH MC2 safety switch has an operating voltage of 24V DC, +10%/- 15%/50 mA max and comes with a 6 inch pigtail, 8-pin micro (M12). The safety outputs are 2 NC Solid-State Relays, and the auxiliary outputs are 1 PNP, 0.2 A max, Status Off (0V DC). To reduce downtime it offers indication of door status and rapid diagnostics with a convenient LED indicator. It also has an excellent ingress protection rating of IP69K. This ensures that it is dust-tight and perfectly suited for use in wet environments as it can withstand powerful, high temperature water jets. It has an operating temperature range of -10 to +55° (+14…+131°), and the operating distance is 10mm (make), 25mm (break).

For high-risk applications a control unit is used with a single sensor to provide a high-integrity system. For other applications, multiple sensors (including mechanical switches) can be connected. Non-contact switches are a highly reliable method of securing machine safety guards as they cut off the power supply to the machine when the gate is released. This prevents machine operators from accessing machinery which may be in motion and decreases the risk of injury.

Features and Benefits:

• Fast troubleshooting due to LED indication located on the switch
• High tolerance to guard door misalignment
• Magnetic coded sensing for superior security
• Non-contact actuation ensures less wear-and-tear and longer service life
• Designed for use with specified controllers
• High IP69K rating

Rockwell Automation is a global leader in industrial automation and digital transformation, and brings smart manufacturing to life. With a long legacy of creating Allen-Bradley® integrated control and information solutions, we help make you as productive as possible. Our portfolio of sensing, safety and motor control products can support your move towards smart machine applications. Allen-Bradley® IO-Link sensors are data-enabled and communicate with all field buses, providing diagnostic and health information about the device before a machine stops, and enabling quick production changeovers through fast parameter downloads from PLCs into the device. This reduces machine downtime and increases manufacturing OEE. For safety components, products with built-in diagnostics simplify the set-up of the smart device, and reduce maintenance, leading to a more efficient, machine data-driven approach.

What are the benefits of non-contact safety switches?

Non-contact safety switches are low-maintenance and endure less wear-and-tear. They are also resistant to shocks and vibrations, and they cannot be easily tampered with or manipulated. This makes them highly durable and reliable. They are a cost-effective, ideal safety solution for machine guard doors and gates, allowing you to restrict access to hazardous areas where machinery may be in motion. For this reason they are often used in industrial environments.
