Tri-Rated Switchgear Cable

A plain copper stranded conductor covered with a PVC sheath. The advantage of using this type of cable is that it allows many different approvals to be met from a single cable type, thereby simplifying purchasing, stockholding, and production. Maximum Operating Temperature 90°C (105°C for 15,000 hours) to BS6231.

Note

The number of strands used in the construction of the conductors may vary. The figures quoted are nominal. Cables marginally exceed maximum diameter in BS6231 to meet UL/CSA.

Standards

BS6231 (UK), CSA TEW (Canada) and UL style 1015, 1028 or 1283 according to cable size (USA).

RS PRO Tri-Rated Switchgear Cable

Tri-Rated Cable gets its name from the fact that it meets the specifications of three different standard-setting bodies. Those designations are:

  • The British Standard Institute (BSI)

  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL)

  • Canadian Standards Association (CSA)

Tri-Rated Cable, known as BS6231 Cable, Panel Wire or Switchgear Cable is commonly used in instrumentation panels, motor control centres and motor starters applications.
We are proudly introducing our own branded RS PRO Tri-Rated Switchgear Cable Class 5 flexible, high-temperature flame retardant Cable. Our Cable is made of flexible copper and encased with PVC (heat resistant polyvinyl chloride) insulation. The advantage of using this type of Cable is that it allows many different approvals to be met from a single Cable type, thereby simplifying purchasing, stockholding, and production. The Switchgear provides Maximum Operating Temperature of up to +90°C (105°C for 15,000 hours).

Features and Benefits

  • Fine-wire strand made of annealed copper wire presenting high-temperature flame retardant

  • Three approvals making this Switchgear versatile Cable to be used in commercial and non-commercial applications

  • The BS6231 has the maximum operating temperature of +90°C (105° for 15,000 hours), 60°C for oil resistance

  • Meets BS6231 (UK), CSA TEW (Canada) and UL style 1015, 1028 or 1283 according to cable size (USA)

  • Reel of 100 m with insulation wall thickness of 0.8 mm

Applications

This Tri-Rated Switchgear Cable is widely used in power applications, but also in everyday electrical applications like:

  • Electrical Cabinets

  • Switch Control in power Switchgear

  • Relay and instrumentation panels of power Switchgear

  • Internal Connectors in rectifier equipment

  • Motor starters and Controllers

  • Small electrical installations

  • Panel Building
