How does a jaw coupling work?
As one hub rotates in response to a force acting on it, it transmits torque to the spider. The spider then transmits this torque to the second hub, causing it to turn as well. When the spider eventually reaches the end of its lifespan and fails, the jaws of the two hubs automatically interlock. This means they continue to carry the load but without the dampening effect, which alerts the system operator that it's time to replace the coupling.
