Microchip Technology Switching Regulator

The Microchip Technology TO-220 package type is a through-hole mount, 1 channel adjustable switching regulator with 5 pins. These monolithic integrated circuits provide all the active functions for a step down (buck) switching regulator. Adjustable versions have an output voltage range is between 1.23V and 37V.

Features and Benefits

• 100% electrical thermal limit burn in
• 52kHz fixed frequency internal oscillator
• 80% efficiency (adjustable version typically > 80%)
• Adjustable version: ±2% max. Feedback voltage
• Fixed version: ±3% max. Output voltage
• Guaranteed 3A output current
• Low power standby mode IQ typically < 200μA
• Requires only 4 external components
• Thermal shutdown and current limit protection
• Uses readily available standard inductors
• Voltage over specified line and load conditions is
• Wide input voltage range: 4V to 40V

Applications

• Efficient pre-regulator for linear regulators
• Isolated flyback converter using minimum number of external components
• Negative boost converter
• On card switching regulators
• Positive to negative convertor (inverting Buck-Boost)
• Simple high-efficiency
