3M Ceramic Grinding Disc, P80 Grit, 50mm Diameter - 89699

Need a high-performance, long-lasting disc to tackle grinding and heavy sanding jobs on metal? This 3M medium-grade fibre disc combines a precision-shaped grain with an incorporated grinding aid to help keep it cool. The grain is strongly resin-bonded to the fibre backing, which enables efficient cutting, gives the disc longevity and helps reduce user fatigue. Thanks to the Roloc quick-attachment system, it's easy to lock the disc into place without the need for fitting tools.

• Suitable for challenging metal grinding jobs such as chamfering, machining grooves and removing steel welds
• Ideal for use on hard and fast-to-grind metals such as stainless steel and high-nickel alloys
• Can also be used for medium-heavy sanding
• Maximum safe speed of 30,000rpm supports high-speed grinding
• Stiff fibre backing resists tearing

Applications

• Agricultural machinery
• Construction industry
• Boatbuilding

Using the 3M™ 787C outperforms conventional ceramic discs. Designed to be used with a 3M™ backing pad with an angle grinder or sander. This fibre wheel is well-suited to edge chamfering, machining grooves, removing steel welds and more.

What are P80 grit abrasives used for?

P80 is at the finer end of the coarse grit range. It'll cut through rough edges and old paint with ease and is ideal for jobs that need a little more delicacy than a rougher P60 grit.

Optimised Cutting

Using 3M™ precision-shaped grain technology to offer a higher initial and durability to outlast conventional ceramic fibre discs. The grit wears evenly and with the abrasive staying cooler and sharper, the PSG abrasive lasts significantly longer than conventional ceramic discs. These discs will help to step up production with an improved output on both light and heavy stock removal.

Quick Change system

The Roloc™ system from 3M™ provides a secure attachment on heavy duty applications. It allows for Roloc discs to be quickly swapped out from one application to another in seconds. The plastic threaded button or screw is designed to easily and quickly screw on a Roloc disc pad (50 mm backing pad - 288-471).

Features and Benefits

• Cuts hard and fast to grind metals like stainless steel and high nickel alloys

• 3M Precision Shaped Grain yields higher cut rates and excels at heavyweight applications

• Grinding aid minimises grinding temperatures for heat-sensitive alloys

• Reduce costs with long-lasting abrasive - completes more parts than conventional discs

• Durable and tear resistant

• 3M™ Roloc™ attachment locks disc securely into place, no tools required

Typical Applications

The 3M™ 787C heavy-duty fibre discs are great for weld removals, grinding and blending large and small metal areas. This could occur in industries such as farm and construction, automotive, ship and boat building, metal fabrication.

FAQ's

How do I know which fibre disc to use on what substrate?

The 787C is used for stainless steel and other non-ferrous alloys such as aluminium and titanium, the 782C disc is used for carbon steel (Sold at RS).

Would you be able to use these discs on wood?

These abrasive discs are designed to be used on metals and not recommended to be used on wood.

What safety requirements should I observe?

When grinding metal or sanding, appropriate personal protection equipment should be worn. Gloves, eye protection and even respiratory protection are essential PPE for general purpose grinding and polishing applications.

For safe operation of an angle grinder, be sure you have participated in appropriate training and are aware of all safety advice relevant to the material you are working on.
