How does a Solenoid Interlock Switch work?
A Solenoid Interlock Switch contains an internal solenoid, which is a wire coil that can convert electrical energy to mechanical. This type of safety switch is typically used on machine guards, doors and gates for position monitoring and access control. These safety switches ensure that guards are securely locked while the machinery is in motion to prevent risk of injury to operators. To release the machine guard the solenoid must be either energised (Power to Open) or de-energised (Power to Lock) by an external signal.
Schmersal Solenoid Safety Interlock Switches
The AZM 161 series switches by Schmersal feature up to 6 contacts and have a high holding force of 2000N which offers excellent security. The AZM 170 series has a compact design to enable greater application flexibility and has up to 5 contacts.
Both the 161 and 170 benefit from a durable thermoplastic enclosure with a broad operating temperature range of −25 °C to +60 °C. With a high ingress protection rating of IP67 you can be sure that they are dust-tight and can withstand temporary immersion in water, making them ideal for washdown environments.
The AZM 300 series uses non-contact technology and has RFID-based safe detection of the actuator, which provides greater anti-tamper resistance. This model allows 3 different directions of actuator for optimal versatility and has 2 safety outputs and 1 diagnostic output.
With Schmersal switching devices you can provide dependable protection for workers and machinery, decreasing downtime and giving you peace-of-mind. Find your perfect machine safety solution today with Schmersal.
