Wire Rope
Wire ropes are a specific type of rope made from metal that has been twisted/braided together to form a strong rope. These types of ropes are advantageous for jobs involving a lot of lifting or lowering of loads as they are sturdy, reliable, and robust. The actual wire of the rope can be made from several materials, including, steel, iron, and/or stainless steel. Steel wire ropes and its galvanised alternative are extremely resistant to water & chemicals, making them ideal for outdoor use for example.
The design its self is unique in that the strands within consist of multiple steel wires that form individual stands laid, typically in a helical pattern around a core. As a result of this internal structure, the wire rope is extremely durable and flexible and handles bending stresses particularly well. They are also highly abrasive resistant which is useful in high-demand industries that may have a higher chance of contact with other objects.
When choosing your wire rope there are many considerations to take into account, such as the strength/flexibility of the wire as well as the crushing/fatigue resistance of the wire as each will determine where best to use them.
