RS PRO Insulated Ring Terminal, M4 (#8) Stud Size, 0.5mm² to 1.5mm² Wire Size, Red

From RS PRO a high-quality insulated crimp ring terminal, also known as a ring connector or cable lug. Ring crimp terminals are used for connecting an electrical cable or wire to a stud or a post on an electrical component such as a battery terminal. This ring terminal is made from highly conductive copper and has a double crimp design with an internal copper sleeve. This internal copper sleeve strengthens the barrel, provides a robust and secure crimp and protects the wire against stress and high vibration. The ring terminal is then tin plated for maximum electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. A colour coded nylon insulation provides protection to the terminal and aids quick identification of the terminal size. Once correctly crimped onto a wire or cable this ring terminal will provide a secure and reliable electrical connection.

These insulated crimp ring wire connectors are used in a wide range of industries for connecting wires to electrical components. The design of this wire connector means that is ideal for use in high vibration or heavy industrial applications. When selecting the right ring terminal for your application, you should consider the following:

• The wire gauge mm (metric) or AWG (American Wire Gauge) of the wire or cable you are using
• The stud size to which you will be connecting the ring terminal.
• The inner diameter of the ring terminal

Firstly, select the correct sized ring terminal. Strip the end of the wire and cut it to the same length as terminal. Insert the wire into the terminal barrel making sure no bare wire is visible. The crimp terminal is then ready to be crimped on to the end of the wire. When crimping a wire terminal, pliers or a ratchet can be used but, for a better quality crimp, it is better to use a ratchet crimping tool. A ratchet crimping tool is preferable as the handles will remain locked until a full crimp cycle is completed which will prevent partial crimps. Insert the barrel of the ring terminal into the appropriate crimping section (indicated by sizes marked on the tool). Squeeze the tool handles together until the ratchet releases. The crimped ring terminal can now be placed over the stud or post and secured in place with a nut or by soldering.
