The Importance of a High-Quality Crimp

When a crimping tool is used on a terminal, two crimps take place at the same time. One is the electrical connection between conductor and terminal. The other is the insulation crimp which provides strain relief against vibration and tension. It is important that the electrical connection is gas tight without any voids between the wire strands and the terminal. If there any voids present, then corrosion can occur causing resistance and excessive heat which damages the electrical connection. The handles have an ergonomic non-slip design reducing operator fatigue and making the tool easy and comfortable to use. The crimping tool frame has two handles and jaws and a ratchet with an emergency ratchet release lever. The die assembly consists of two fixed crimping dies and two movable anvil dies. The dies form three crimping chambers marked with the wire size for easy identification. A flap locator ensures that the terminal is accurately positioned during crimping and a contact support prevents the terminal from bending during crimping

Ratchet and Ratchet Release

This commercial grade Mini-CERTI-LOK hand crimping tool features a ratchet which controls the crimping height of the insulation or wire barrel of the terminal. The ratchet stays locked until the handles of the tool are fully closed and the dies are bottomed. The ratchet makes audible clicks as the handles close, on the last click the ratchet releases and the tool handle can be opened again. This feature prevents partial crimps by ensuring that a full crimping cycle is achieved and enables the operator to repeatedly produce consistent, high-quality crimps. Adjustment to the ratchet is necessary when the ratchet or other parts of the tool have been subject to wear and tear, which is achieved by replacing the tool shaft with a shaft with a different diameter
The ratchet release allows the operator to open the handles of the crimp tool at any point during the crimping cycle when necessary

Flap Locator

This Mini-Certi-Lok crimp tool features a flap locator which enables terminals to be placed more easily with increased accuracy. The locator is simply flipped out by the operator who then loads the terminal into the locator and flips it back into place. The terminal is then accurately located and the crimping process can continue
