Masonry Plugs, Anchors & Fixings

Masonry is described as anything that a mason puts down. That means anything that is laid by a stonemason or bricklayer is masonry. This includes brick, stone, and block walls.

When you need a fixing into brick, block or concrete, you need to be confident that it will be strong enough for the application. The traditional way of fixing to masonry is to use screws, but you can’t screw directly into a brick wall, a block wall or a stone, so you need to drill a hole, and then provide a material that can be screwed into, but will also hold the screw firmly into place. Masonry plugs, anchors and fixings are ideal for this purpose and you can learn more in our masonry anchors guide.

Types:
● Anchor Bolts - All purpose expansion anchor for use in medium weight applications in brickwork, blockwork and hard masonry. Through fixing allows drilling through pre-positioned fixture. Manufactured from zinc-plated steel.
● Wall Plugs - Plug that fixes most light to medium weight objects to solid or cavity walls, ceilings or floors. Can be used in materials ranging from plywood to plasterboard, brickwork, blockwork, concrete and stone. Typical applications include shelf fixings and wall mounted cabinets.
Features and Benefits of wall plugs:
● Expands into wall immediately for secure grip in plasterboard
● Cannot be over-tightened
● Anti-rotation fins prevent spinning in the hole
● Universal application saves searching for right plug for every wall type
● Concrete Screws - Concrete screws are designed and manufactured so that the thread of the screws taps into concrete, block or brick. The threads are hardened without making the body of the screws so brittle that the screws shear off.
Features and benefits of concrete screws:
● Counterstruck to sit flush or below the surface of your material
● Has a corrosion resistant Perma-Seal coating
● Optimised thread design for lower installation torque
● Incorporates a gimlet drill point for wood base materials meaning no pre drilling is required
● Use un various light to medium duty applications in base materials including hollow core concrete slabs, lightweight concrete, aerated concrete, chipboard, gypsum block, gypsum board and wood
